There are a few standards that, no matter how many times you hear them during the holidays (it can feel like 200 times, give or take), you never get tired of them. Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” (oh stop, there’s no shame) or the original Band-Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” for instance. The grandaddy of them all, though, is perhaps Bing Crosby and David Bowie’s mashup of “Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth”. Today, it is still as weird as it is wonderful a pairing as it must have seemed in 1977 when Crosby invited Bowie to join him on his TV program. Turns out Ziggy Stardust and the crooner make beautiful music together.
